This morning we used the painty papers created last week to make a collage background in our journals.
We started by tearing up the painty pages and sticking them down. The next layer gesso or white acrylic paint, applied with a cardboard scraper to bring all the scraps together and knock back the darker tones.
Applying different thicknesses of this layer allowed some areas to have a translucent look, while the thicker areas created some great contrast with the opaque white.
The afternoon shifted to another collage activity: making “scrappy snippets.” We used packing tape and paper scraps to create these strips, then turned them into journal covers and journal pockets for storing ephemera.
