This week, our participants created a beautiful silhouette-style spread in their journals.
We explored a variety of new techniques to build rich, layered backgrounds. Using acrylic paint, we experimented with color swatching and the dry brush technique to create texture and depth. Participants also tried reverse (negative) stenciling and expressive mark-making with stamps, markers, and pens—adding unique details and personality to their pages.
For the focal point, each person selected a silhouette image from a magazine, carefully cut it out, painted it, and “jooshed it up” with white pen highlights to make it pop. As a final touch, they cut hearts from a recycled paper shopping bag and added their own chosen wording to complete the composition.
Such a creative and inspiring session—every spread turned out completely unique and full of personality!
