Watercolour & Bookmaking
After spending the first term learning different watercolour techniques, the participants of the watercolour and bookmaking class were asked to take the skills they learned in the first term and use them to make a book. We started off learning a few different book folds and chose what would work best for the book we wanted to make. The participants were most interested in the concertina fold.
Looking at a few different examples of the books, the participants started planning their book looking at the theme “your backyard”. This theme could be taken literally or expanded to exploring places that made you feel at home. The fantastic thing about these interpretations of the theme mean that all the students work was different and told had amazing stories connected to the images. It was great to see them apply their new skills to this project and lean into techniques they enjoyed the most. It was also rewarding for everyone to see the book take shape each week.
In the end the participants created a 10 page book each filled with beautiful images using watercolour. As the tutor it was so rewarding to see where they started and how they finished across the course and I think you will agree that everyone create work they can truly be proud of .
Thankyou to all of the Watercolour and Bookmaking term1 and 2 participants
